Switzerland

Finally, I've made it to my last and final post about our trip... only a month after we got home, not bad. We had such a great time in Zurich with our wonderful friends Tally and Jessie Price. It was so nice to see them again, and in Europe none the less! When we found out they were moving to Switzerland shortly after we moved to Spain we were so excited. What are the chances some of your best friends move to Europe the same time you do? Now we've got to get the rest of the clan over here... If we plan it right, we could have free lodging in every country!
We took a train from Venice to Zurich, 8 hours in all. It was a beautiful ride through Italy and Switzerland. We had several breathtaking views of the Alps. It's pretty much indescribably stunning to see in person. We happened to come the weekend of Zurich-fest, which was quite unplanned but a welcome surprise. The festival only happens every 3 years and many people come to the city to celebrate. We were told by Jessie and Tally that the city was very unusually crowded. We didn't mind though.

Friday night we left baby Jay with grandma and grandpa and went downtown to see the fireworks. We were very impressed! The music and fireworks were wonderful. The show was one of the best I've ever seen. After fireworks we walked around, ate some really gross pesto pasta and then Mike and Tally tried "surfing."

Both didn't last a super long time, but we think the game was rigged. It was fun to watch them and we got some free sunscreen out of it. We then tried to go find the giant water slide that drops down into the river but on our way over we got stuck in a HUGE crowd of people making their way down a six-lane street. I was pretty much terrified of being trampled. We were literally in a wall-to-wall crowd of people and there looked to be no way out. Mike thought I was a little crazy for being so scared. Luckily we were able to hop a fence and made it out without incident. Jessie and I then bought chocolate dipped bananas and we headed home. It was a very fun night with the Price's!

Sunday we went to church and were able to experience going to a ward in German. Luckily we had translators, although we're still not sure we caught everything. Translating is hard! We had an excellent BBQ dinner with the neighbors later that day complete with bratwurst, yum! Have I mentioned how beautiful the view is from Tally and Jessie's place? Well it's incredible! Switzerland is a very pretty place. Their apartment looks out onto Zurich Lake and is pretty perfect. The inside is so cute. Jessie has a knack for decorating... even if she doesn't think so. I somehow didn't get any pictures of it. Check on their blog to see some!

On Monday we ventured out on a train to Rhinefalls without Tally and Jessie, who had to work. It was a beautiful place! The falls are huge! We put Jay in the backpack and hiked around to our heart's content. It was pretty cold and rainy and Mike only had a t-shirt on so he found a brand-new Mamoth coat to buy. It's really cool. We found some adorable blue Teva shoes for Jay too. We had a great time at the falls and the train ride was beautiful as well.

On Tuesday Tally and Jessie took the day off and we went to Lucerne. It was Jessie's birthday - Happy Birthday Jessie :) We had such a great time. We walked around the city, had lunch at a yummy pizza place, and saw an Imax film on the Alps (well, my dad, Jay and I missed it because they don't allow babies inside!). We also saw the Reuss River and the famous Chapel Bridge as well as the Lion Monument. It's a tribute to 700 Swiss officers and soldiers who died while defending the palace - very majestic and stirring. After seeing Lucerne we went to a special birthday dinner for Jessie, which ended up being ridiculously overpriced with terrible service (that's Europe for ya). When we got back to Tally and Jessie's we had brownies for her birthday. Unfortunately we didn't have birthday candles, so we had to make do with a regular candle.

On Wednesday we toured around Zurich a little more. We saw the cathedral and walked around the cobblestone streets. Switzerland is so clean everywhere you go. We loved it! We then said our goodbyes and headed back home to Spain. We had a wonderful time and Tally and Jessie were such good hostesses. Thanks so much for the great time guys! We miss you and can't wait to see you again soon (with baby girl Price too!).
