Playing at the Park with Alex

Jay loves the Connellys next door neighbor Alex. He is the sweetest young man and always is willing to play with Jay. While we were up in Ogden re-doing the floor grandma took Jay and Alex to play at the park. Jay had so much fun! It looks like Alex did too. I hope Jay will be just like Alex someday!

New Floor

Mike and I have been wanting to redo the floor in our condo in Ogden for a while now. Since our renters just moved out we decided now is a good time. The carpet downstairs was trashed so we decided to replace it with a pergo type floor. We had two full days up in Ogden without Jay and we worked our tails off to get it done. Our good friends Matt and Lauren were kind enough to help too. What a lot of work! First we had to pull off the carpet (not hard) then we had to pull off the carpet pad (HARD!). Mike's job was to pull up all the little boards that were nailed into the pad and the cement floor. My job was to get all the nasty sticky glue/pad scraped off the cement floor. Wow did my fingers and hands hurt after that! We also had to take off all the baseboards around the room. After getting the floor prepared, laying the pergo wasn't too difficult. We did have to figure out how it all worked, but once we got the hang of it it went really fast. The only hard part was when we had to saw the boards to fit the angled wall. After finishing the floor I repainted the baseboards outside - right before a huge rainstorm hit us and blew water and tiny pieces of dirt and grass onto the drying boards. After wiping off the baseboards they miraculously looked pretty good so we nailed them back on and then I had to Spackle, sand down and paint all the nail holes. Mike then caulked the baseboards so they would look nice. We also had to cut and nail little quarter round wood pieces next to the front door and the stairs. Oh, and to get rid of the carpet we drove around at 1 am looking for a secluded dumpster and ended up finding one right outside a Wells Fargo. No one was there though and it was unlocked and empty so we quickly dumped the carpet. Is that illegal? I don't know. Once we finished all that, we cleaned up, fixed some problems in the rest of the condo and we were finished. 48 hours of hard work, and boy did it pay off. Check out our beautiful new wood floor! We love it. So, anyone want to rent it?

Hiking in the mountains

We went up to the cabin over the weekend and went hiking. Jay is such a good little hiker. I think he enjoyed it as much as grandma :) Especially the dandelions.

Rainy Days in Utah

We're back in Utah and it's raining!?!?? What a crazy summer. Here it is the end of June and it's actually raining outside. We'll take it I guess. At least it's not the normal 100+ here. Oni and Noah came over yesterday. Jay had so much fun playing outside in the rain with them and grandma. They were all soaked by the time they came back inside but they were very happy too. What a wonderful life. Just hanging out, singing in the rain.

Happy Birthday Mike!

Mike's birthday was a lot of fun to celebrate. We were up at the cabin in Midway, so how could it not have been wonderful? My parents and the Connellys both gave us money to spend for our birthdays, since they knew it would be hard for us to get back to Spain with anything big. We decided to spend some of it on a fun date out in Park City (the rest is going towards either a Northern European cruise or a Holy Land cruise). We started off the day at the Park City Outlets where Mike found some tri gear and I found some sweet new shoes. After the outlets we had a yummy lunch then we went to the Park City Resort and went on the slides. It was awesome! Mike definitely beat me in the race, but oh well. He's just bigger than I am, right? We had a great day, all thanks to the generosity of our parents. Thanks guys, we love you!
p.s. In Mike's defence: The above pictures of Mike wearing the pink cape were taken right before Melissa cut his hair. The "cape" is actually a sheet worn to keep hair off of Mike. However, he was wearing it like a cape and twirling around. I'm just saying...

Family and Friends

We have had so much fun in California. Here were are at Asian Gardens with the fam. Of course we had to go while we were in town. It was so wonderful to see everyone.

We also were able to see Tisha, Daren, Tanner, Blake, Breanne and Kennidi. It was great to finally hang out, Mike hasn't had much of a chance to in the past. Well, it's time to say goodbye to California for now. We sure miss it when we're gone. We hope to see everyone again soon!

Monterey

Over the weekend we went to beautiful Monterey. Cory met us there with his girlfriend Brandy. It was really nice for the family to meet her. We all got along really well and enjoyed getting to know her better. She's a wonderful woman. We had so much fun together. While we were in Monterey we also had a chance to see my long lost best friend since junior high - Teresa Coffey. She's been living in Monterey the past 7 years (lucky girl) and is a manager at Bubba Gumps.
It was so fun to see Tree. She's awesome. Monterey was pretty cold there but it was okay with a jacket on. Jay loved the ocean and all the boats. He also enjoyed seeing the sea otters. We stayed right off the warf, it was a great spot.
We especially enjoyed taste testing all the yummy clam chowder at the restaurants along the warf. mmmm.... clam chowder. Here's Jay and Nona looking out at the ocean. Jay couldn't get enough of it. He loved laughing at the waves.

On Saturday we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was really cool, but it was so crowded. We found out that going to the Aquarium on a Saturday, especially on Father's Day weekend, is not a good idea. Oh well, we still had a good time. Jay really liked the kid area. They had indoor playgrounds and a tide pool to play in. He loved it. Too bad there were so many kids there. He only had the chance to see about half of what was there.
Some of our favorite creatures were these funny sea horses. Aren't they cool? They look like plants! We also really liked the new sea horse exhibit. It was amazing. Sea horses are beautiful creatures.

On Saturday night we saw my Uncle Jim, Aunt Michelle, Cousin Steve and Val and their kids. It was so nice to see thim. It has been way too long. Jay enjoyed meeting his second cousins. I don't have any pictures for some reason. I'll have to find some and post them. On Sunday we had a nice Father's Day. We had a breakfast of crepes then we had to say goodbye to Cory and Brandy so they could make their way back to L.A.
After we said goodbye Mom, Dad, Mike, Jay and I went to Carmel to see the mission there. It is a beautiful place.
Jay loved throwing coins in the fountain.

There were some gorgeous flowers and greenery around the mission.

After seeing the mission we drove along the 17 mile drive. There are some incredible houses there. We stopped along the way at one of the beaches to play along the waves and pop the seaweed bubbles. Jay had a great time. So did we!It was a wonderful weekend, especially because we were able to spend it together.
