4th of July in Chile

To be honest, it didn't really feel like the 4th here since it's winter time and we're not in the USA but we still had a good weekend celebrating. On Saturday we got together with the local missionaries for some basketball and a BBQ. What's more American than that? One missionary's mom even sent red white and blue plates and decor for the occasion. It was really good, except I definitely think hamburgers and hot dogs sold in the States taste better. On Sunday we went to a flag raising ceremony at the embassy.

It was nice to connect with the other Americans in Chile. We even met an LDS couple, Lydia and Brandon. The funny thing is after talking to them we realized that I grew up in Nevada City with Lydia's cousin Russel Knight. Then we realized that Brandon and I were in the same ward Freshman year at BYU. Again, it's a small Mormon world!

Mike had Monday off so we relaxed, shopped and went to the park. It was a nice weekend, although we certainly missed celebrating in the States this year!

We sorely missed having you this year for the 4th too! Glad there's an American flag way over yonder in Chile. In 2011 perhaps you'll celebrate every American holiday in America??? Time will tell. Lots of love to you all.

Sounds like a fun weekend... I'm glad you were able to celebrate! And I think I would trade the absurd heat here for cooler weather in a second, even on the 4th of July! The park is beautiful!
