Nona came down to Santiago for 2 weeks and we had so much fun having her here. As usual, Jay forgot all about mom and just wanted his Nona (what a nice break for me!). Amaya got lots of love from her Nona as well. We all had a wonderful time and we even got some sight-seeing in. One day we went up to the Cerro San Cristobal, which is a large hill in the middle of Santiago. You can climb or drive to the top to see a stunning view of Santiago. Of course it was smoggy the day we went, but it was still pretty incredible. On the very top sits a statue of the Virgin Mary.
Jay was excited to pet this beautiful dog. He's a police dog - a little friendlier than the ones you find in the States. After seeing the Cerro we took Nona to see the Plaza de Armas and the Mercado Central.
One of the big department stores along the paseo. It's called "Johnson's" - go figure! Another day my mom and I took the metro down to see the Cerro Santa Lucia. It's a smaller hill in the city with beautiful foliage, pathways and lookouts on it. It's a sort of oasis in the city. There are also beautiful views from the top.
Over the weekend we took a trip to Vina del Mar. It's a coastal town about and hour and a half from Santiago. The weather was perfect, although still too cold to swim. We had a nice time playing on the beach and walking along the ocean though.
We ate at a yummy Chilean-Italian restaurant - one of the rare times a tour book recommendation turned out as good as promised. Everything was delicious!
Other than sight-seeing Nona just hung out with us and saw how we live our daily life. We did get some time in playing at the park and Nona had to buy Amaya an new outfit and Jay a birthday present.
We love you Nona!
