The Mountains

On the Connelly's last full day we decided to go up to the mountains for a hike. We had heard about a hike to a lake and thought we would try it out. We happened to stop at a little road side Arepa stand on our way to ask for directions and met a very nice couple there with their 18 month old son. The husband is from Bogota and his wife is from Australia. When they saw our kids and heard we were trying to go to the lake they immediately let us know it would be a very difficult, straight uphill 3 hour hike. They then let us know they were on their way to their farm and asked if we wanted to join them and hike around there instead. What an invitation! Of course we quickly said yes and after having some delicious arepas and fresh squeezed mandrine juice of our own we all headed to the farm.

At the farm the kids were in heaven. They loved romping along and seeing all the animals. We even were able to see a new baby calf who had just been born that morning! It was pretty incredible.

Here is the friendliest farm dog we've ever met! He was SO sweet. Their 18 month old even kicked him right in the face and he didn't do anything!

After hanging out at the farm our new friends invited us to lunch at a nearby restaurant. We followed them there and never would have found it or even known it had existed except for them. The food was excellent and the restaurant itself was surrounded by acres of beauty. There were even some farm animals there too.

Everyone had a wonderful day and we now have some new friends! Who knew asking for directions was so useful?
