La Mesa

Some friends we met through Jay's school (Yidla and Nicolas Camello) invited us to spend the weekend with them in La Mesa. It's about 2 1/2 hours from Bogota. It was so fun! It's lower in elevation so it's much warmer but not as hot at Giradot. It was also a bit cloudy all weekend but it was still really great. The best thing for the kids was that their pool is heated! They invited us and another family from Jay's class so Jay was in heaven having two friends to play with. Amaya and Eva loved their little doggy. Their house was really cool. They've had it in the family for more than 50 years! They have done updates to it but it was really fun to see the mature garden and trees. They had avocado trees, pepper trees, mango trees, fresh sugar cane and more! It was a really beautiful place. There was so much room too. I think they had about 8 bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was outside and it was really fun to have all our meals cooked (by their maid of course) outside. The food was excellent! We barbecued, had pizza, and fondue. We brought them an ice-cream maker so we had homemade ice-cream too. On the trip we found out that Amaya can swim all by herself now! No floaties needed. Wow! We were super surprised! Those swimming lessons once a week during school have seriously paid off. We are so proud of our little girl! We all had a great time and are so grateful for good friends. The only bad thing was that somehow I forgot my suitcase!!! Luckily Yidla let me borrow some of her clothes and a bathing suit. There were also tons of beetles but we didn't mind. We even convinced Amaya they are really nice so hopefully she won't have a fear for bugs in the future!
