Jay recently had a "family" day at his school, Gimnasio Moderno. It was pretty interesting. We started out the morning with mass. In Spanish. Yeah, didn't get a lot out of that. Jay was SO excited to see me in the audience though. All the kids were sitting in the bleachers at the big school gymnasium and the parents were sitting in seats that were set up in the basketball court. I made sure to sit near Jay and he was smiling so big and waving at me constantly. It was adorable! I was surprised to see how easily he sat through an hour of mass. It's not like he could understand much either (nor did he particularly want to I would imagine) but he just sort of sat there and looked around the room and at me. Now why is it he can't do that in Sacrament meeting? There he needs snacks, toys, crayons, stickers etc. I'm going to blame it on myself. Obviously he's capable of sitting quietly during a religious presentation but I've trained him to expect more in our own Sacrament meetings. Oh well! Such is life.
After Mass we went to his classroom where the kids put on a mini presentation for the parents.
It was actually pretty hilarious. They sang the song, "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure. They sang another song in English about mice or something but Friday was my favorite. Look in the video for the kid to the right of Jay in the orange bow tie. His name is ChuChu (not sure what his real name is but that's what everyone calls him). He's Jay's best friend at school. He's a really sweet kid. Jay's told me that he often helps him and plays with him at recess. I love ChuChu!
It made me laugh because the kids even announced the whole program in English. Aren't we paying for Jay to learn Spanish? Well... okay,
we're not paying for it. Obviously the other parents are paying for their kids to have a good education and learn English. I'm actually glad Jay has that English class 3 times a week though. I think it gives him a little boost of confidence. And hey, the presentation was a piece of cake for him! After the songs Jay was presented his art project to me.
He did a pretty good job! Those blue guys are dolphins. Of course green was the main color used throughout the painting. What a cutie!
For MyMy's last day of school they had a party for her. I brought snacks and the kids ate while they watched a slideshow of pictures of her from her time at AEIOTu. They also sang her favorite song (Estrellita Donde Estas?) and even watched a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show. Basically her favorite things all rolled into one delightful morning.
We are heading back to the States for a month now and we can't wait to see everyone! We do love Colombia though... here are Jay and MyMy showing off their Colombian pride in their new official Colombian futbol Jerseys. Mika's in there too. Her parents brought them back for all the kids from Cartagena. I love these kiddos!
